The Real Reason Elisabeth Hasselbeck Was Fired From The View

Celebrity - News

Throughout Elisabeth Hasselbaeck’s time on "The View," the conservative personality was not afraid to get into it with other panel members, and she frequently quarreled with Rosie O'Donnell. Their most infamous television spar went down in May 2007, when George W. Bush was serving as president.

Hasselback threw her full support behind the Iraq war, a controversial opinion even today. She said on air that President Bush pulling troops out of Iraq "is essentially saying to our enemies we don't have any team out there," to which O'Donnell said, "you just said 'our enemies in Iraq.' Did Iraq attack us?"

Despite Hasselbeck's fiery reputation, her exit from "The View" surprised both her fans and herself. The TV personality detailed the moment of her firing in her book, writing, "I could not breathe — literally, could not breathe... I was bent over — shock, asthma, and betrayal all stealing my wind".

It's possible that Hasselbeck's feather-ruffling, including her spat with O'Donnell, contributed to her getting the boot; she wrote that an ABC exec told her that "The View" was "going in a less political direction." Hasselbeck also claims that she was offered her "View" spot back six years later, which she declined.
