Inside Chris Rock And Will Smith's Fractured Relationship

Celebrity - News

"King Richard" star Will Smith and "Grown Ups" actor Chris Rock have known each other for more than two decades, and their connection may have started out friendly, but has turned sour over the years. Here’s a short history of their strained relationship.

Smith and Rock go back to 1995, when Rock had a cameo in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," and Rock starred alongside Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, in three "Madagascar" movies. The trio’s relationship turned into a feud at the 2016 Oscars, when Rock made digs at Jada for not attending due to a lack of diversity.

Rock, who was that year's Oscars presenter, said "Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties. I wasn't invited!". He made more jabs at Will and Jada in subsequent years, which may have culminated in Will slapping Rock across the face at the 2022 Oscars.

Smith didn't apologize to Rock for slapping him across the face on live television, but he did use his acceptance speech for Best Actor to tell viewers he was sorry about the incident. Smith has since apologized to Rock directly and personally resigned from the Academy.
